Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The FAQ Questions were composed by the 2007-08 Math Club President Fred Iacoletti.

Question 01
Q How do I become a member?
A All you have to do is come to one of our meetings.  To be a full member, you must attend at least two meetings in an academic year.  To join our mailing list, email one of the officers on the officers page.

Question 02
Q I am a graduate student.  How do I become a full member?
A The same rules apply - except that you cannot run for an officer position unless you are an undergraduate.

Question 03
Q What kinds of students are in the Math Club?
A We've had students majoring in Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Visual Arts, Electrical Engineering, and Dance just to name a few.

Question 04
Q How often are the meetings held?
A They are held roughly three to five times per semester.  Within one month into the semester, we decide all of the meeting times for the semester, and you can look them up on the meetings page.

Question 05
Q How do I get a Math Club T-shirt?
A Whenever we sell Math Club T-Shirts, instructions will appear on the main page.

Question 06
Q What other organizations work with the math club?
A The Philosophy Club works with us a little bit.  We are in the talks of working with more organizations.

Question 07
Q What happened to the old website?
A It was replaced with this one.  I archived the old website and you can still visit it here, but it's completely abandoned and full of obselete information so don't rely on it.

Question 08
Q Does your Math Club charge dues?
A No.

Question 09
Q How often does the newsletter come out?
A On average, about 3 or 4 times per semester.  The newsletter page may have some tentative deadlines during the semester.

Question 10
Q I heard that the Newsletter Editor of your Math Club hit the President of the Arizona State University Math Club below the belt for plagiarizing your newsletter.  Did you let him have it?
A I never met the ASU Math Club President, and I don't think they ever plagiarized.  For the record, I would never hit someone below the belt (maybe above the belt... just kidding).

Question 11
Q Hey Fred, can you do ________ to the Math Club Website.
A Maybe.  Several changes that I already made to this website were a result of suggestions and ideas brought up by others, including the List of Members and the "reverse" ordering of the List of Meetings..

Question 12
Q Can you do ________ with the show on YouTube?
A Would you be willing to help out with it? We really need more volunteers..

Question 13
Q Can you write ________ for the newsletter?
A No. You write ________ for the newsletter, and I'll put it in.  The newsletter is for everyone to write articles..

Question 14
Q How come the only meeting minutes are from when Fred Iacoletti was secretary?
A Because I'm the only one who bothered to type them up... so far.  The current secretary is supposed to give me the more recent ones when he gets around to typing them..

Question 15
Q Is Question 10 really a "Frequently Asked Question?"
A Not really.  Question 15 is more frequent.  I looked up ASU's Math Club, and they aren't even good enough to have their own newsletter.

Question 16
Q How come the math club is only meeting 3, 4, or 5 times a semester?
A If it were up to me, there would be more meetings.  But it isn't.

Question 17
Q Did Penn State University plagairize your Keepin' it Real T-Shirt?
A Possibly. Check out their website if you don't believe me. (UPDATE: Penn State removed the "a+bi" part of their shirt, but kept the "Keepin' it Real" part of it).

Question 18
Q Why does this FAQ Suck?
A Making them is harder than it looks. I'm thinking about completely redoing this page, but I don't have time to do that just yet.

Question 19
Q I have an important question that isn't on this list, where should I go?
A Email me: fiacolet@gmu.edu.
